2 years odd old Penny University is definitely standing strong along the stretch of East Coast Road. Strong aroma of coffee brew welcomes you once you step into the cafe. A corner of the cafe is decorated with bookshelves making it like a reading chilling corner. & a thing to note is that the wait is crazily long during the weekends! You may wonder why with so many cafes around right now, but it’s just for 2 simple reason, Cheap & Quality food.

Besides a brunch menu and coffee, there’s also a selection of cakes for your after meal satisfaction.

Since the last time i tried a babycino i begin to fall in love with it, partly due to the mini marshmallow i must say. Babycino ($4) are basically frothed milk without the caffeine. & topped with mini marshmallow for some sweetness when melt in your mouth. As i’m not a milk lover, i find it a little too overwhelming for me, i’ll probably go for the chocolate flavor the next time i drop by there.

As you may or may not know by now, Penny university do not really serve the typical all day breakfast where you can get it almost in any cafe. They had something simpler, not too fanciful, and it started all with toasts and croissants with scrambled eggs or something healthy like yoghurt with granola. And this Turkish Eggs ($8) caught my attention almost instantly. 2 poached eggs on lightly whipped yogurt, topped with homemade spicy Moroccan harissa sauce and oregano leaves, served with toasted bread. Very light and refreshing flavor, sourish yoghurt with the savory eggs. A very special and delightful combination i would say. You could add on smoked salmon or ham / turkey at some extra penny.

We wanted to try their buttermilk waffle but it was sold out on that day, so we decided to go for their Brownie with ice cream ($5.50). Very chocolatey and nutty. It’s a little dry and crumbly too. Goes well with their generous scoop of vanilla ice cream nonetheless.

Overall, a cafe still keeping their prices affordable and not compromising the quality of food all these while. It’s definitely commendable and worth a visit when you’re near the vicinity.
